I chose George Loring Brown's painting Morning, View on Smith's Island, Norwalk Bay, Connecticut. Brown was an American artist and this painting was done in 1863. He painted lots of different landscapes from many places. He used oil on a canvas to achieve this realistic look. I chose this painting because realistic view really inspired me. The small details in the trees and the path are intriguing. The painting just looks very peaceful and surreal. So when painting mine I thought about a more modern day view of landscape.
In my painting I used water colors to show a river running back into a snowy forest. Brown's landscape inspired me to use some type of water in my painting. In his landscape "Morning" the water reflects objects in the painting. In mine I decided to reflect the colors into the river. I also used water color apposed to the oil paint that Brown used.
I used a mind map to plan out elements of my painting.
