In the unit subjects steal I learned to take from other artists and change their work into my own by combining more than one piece of art. In the beginning of this unit I thought "original art" was making a piece of art that was completely your own. I didn't think your own art should look similar to anyone's art. As we moved on in the unit I learned that you can take ideas and overall concepts from others and change or combine them with something else in order to make them your own. Sometimes it is good to steal from other artists in order to make new art. In the picture above I had the idea of taking an elephants trunk and putting a snake in its place since they have similar characteristics. The elephant is traced from another artist's drawing, then I drew the snake and added background elements. By shading the elephant and the snake I was able to blend them together to make them look like one animal.
In the character remix drawing I took the character Elsa from the popular movie Frozen and drew her in prison. I made her a more rebellious and sneaky version of the original character. I used orange colored pencils to show her jumpsuit and used the complementary color, blue, to paint snowflakes in the background. The water color paint really made the snowflakes look natural and having the snowflakes helps develop the character more. |
The video (above) and picture (left) shows my work for the 2 to 1 idea. I took the concept of deforestation and made a zoetrope showing a tree fading away. This idea is showing how trees are disappearing in nature. As you spin the zoetrope and look through the slits in the sides you can see as the tree slowly fades away. To create the fading trees I used a stamp and ink. By blending differing amounts of black and white ink I created many trees that when put together slowly fade from black to white.
